Troubleshooting LiftMaster Operator Error Codes - DDM Garage Doors Blog

Engineers at the Chamberlain Group have designed their LiftMaster operators with error codes that reduce the time required to troubleshoot and repair equipment.

Operator product manuals cover a variety of error codes. In this video, we cover the four major problems that occur in an estimated 80% of operator failures.

  1. The light marked MAS (Maintenance Alert System) blinks twice in a row. This code indicates that the clutch is slipping. This is usually due to something obstructing the door. For example, a broken spring, bent tracks, or a bent or damaged door could all trigger this error code.
  2. The light marked MAS flashes four times in a row. This indicates that the RPM sensor has detected an error. Some possible reasons for this error code include bent tracks, a damaged or disconnected RPM sensor, or an obstruction that keeps the door from closing.
  3. The light marked MAS blinks eight times in a row. This error code indicates there has been a brown-out. See this video for more information about how to check the voltages.
  4. The light marked LMEP (LiftMaster Entrapment Protection) flashes steadily. This error code indicates one of the wires to the photo eyes has been disconnected, or that the eye has been damaged. See our previous video for how to troubleshoot photo eyes.

In order to reset the control board, first cut power to the operator. Then, find the button marked MAS. Press and hold for five seconds to reset the board.

To troubleshoot other error codes, check the LiftMaster operators’ manual.

Our blog titled “Functions of a LiftMaster Logic 5 Control Board” contains additional information about the operations of the LiftMaster operator.

  1. Michael Thorsrud Says:

What about if the Mas blinks 5 times?

  2. Caleb Penney Says:

Hello Michael, thank you for that question. When the error light flashes 5 times, that typically means that there is a problem with the wiring of the operator. However, there is some variation depending on the operator you are working on. I would recommend reaching out to LiftMaster Technical Support for more information: 800 528-5663.

  3. Leo Says:

I have a logic 3.0 that will open fine but when closing it is like the safety eyes are being triggered but they aren’t blinking. The SLS light is solid on the opener head? Is this supposed to be on?

  4. Caleb Penney Says:

Hello Leo, thank you for the question. The problem with the safety eyes could come from misaligned photo eyes, a loose wire, or a problem with the photo eyes themselves. The SLS being on is an indication that there is a problem with your sensing limit switch, which can indicate a problem with the photo eyes as well. For further information, you can call LiftMaster technical support at 800 528 5663, or call us at 800 383 9548.

  7. Dan Musick Says:

    Merry Christmas.

  8. Dan Musick Says:

    John,
Is this on a Logic 5 board?
    Dan

  9. Luis Javier Martinez Says:

I appreciate the information you provide us. I have a problem when I try to replace one of this new cards they give me an RPM fault and I don’t know why

  10. Caleb Penney Says:

Hello Luis! The most common reasons for a RPM error code are bent or obstructed tracks, a damaged or disconnected RPM sensor.
Since this occurred when replacing the cards, there may be an additional problem or a compatibility issue. After you have checked the tracks and RPM sensor, I would recommend contacting LiftMaster directly to explore the issue with them.
