Liz Dzik’s path to vice president began with prayer. While church-hunting, God led her to a congregation near her home. There, she and her family found a loving community and met DDM owner Dan Musick. When DDM’s website lost its rankings in Google search results, business fell. Dan asked Liz to become the company’s SEO Associate, allowing her to work odd hours while raising her children. She accepted.
She didn’t seek promotion; it came from her curiosity, willingness to help, and readiness to fill gaps. What began as SEO work expanded to handling DDM’s copyright. Facing a looming deadline after outsourced materials failed to arrive, she taught herself enough Python overnight to process the website pages and submit filings on time, bringing that capability in-house.
Over six years, she stepped into needed roles, including customer service, order processing, front-end website development, financial reporting with co-owner Jean Musick, and operations coordination. As Dan prepared his “hit-by-a-bus” succession plan, he invited Liz into management meetings. Today, she’s confident she understands most of DDM’s operations, having worked in every department except the warehouse.
When promoted to vice president, Dan noted Liz’s grit — “firmness of mind or spirit: unyielding courage in the face of hardship or danger.” (Webster) Liz says he also values her respect for DDM’s core values, eagerness to learn, and ability to act when tasks go undone. She never expected the title; she wanted DDM to thrive. In her words, “God opened the door to make that possible.”
Liz’s story shows that faithful service and willingness to learn foster strong leaders.
