At DDM Garage Doors, we run into a number of unique situations. This one is a creative way to install spring bumpers on double low headroom tracks when you are short on space.
Craig Boyd wanted to install spring bumpers, but he didn’t have enough room at the ends of his tracks. He asked us for some suggestions to help fix the issue.
We kicked around some ideas, and here’s what resulted. The next four pictures show how he managed to install spring bumpers at the ends of his double low headroom tracks when there didn’t seem to be enough room at the ends of the tracks to mount the bumpers.
Because of the lack of space, Craig modified the tracks to allow the bumpers to work. He also added a unique piece of hardware normally not found on garage doors.
Here’s a close up of the track mounting. Notice how the lower track was modified and cut with a grinder.
Here is a closeup showing the angle mounts.
As it turns out, simple hockey pucks purchased for a dollar at a Play it Again Sports store are the bumpers to engage the spring-loaded rod.
Congratulations, Craig, on a great job!
