Last week DDM Garage Doors, Inc. faced a serious payroll crisis. Leadership had determined they could not meet salary obligations without taking drastic steps: either laying off an employee or cutting everyone’s hours. On Wednesday, June 3, owner Dan Musick and operations coordinator Jean Musick met to review payroll; Jean felt particularly distressed by the situation.
An hour later, the company received unexpected relief. Stripe, DDM’s payment processor, had been withholding $35,884.60 in reserves due to concerns about a high item-return rate (largely caused by customers ordering incorrect parts). That same day Stripe cleared DDM and released the reserved funds. The returned amount was exactly what the company needed to cover payroll for the current period, allowing DDM to avoid layoffs or hour reductions. Dan and Jean rejoiced at the news.
We’re grateful for the timely resolution and proud of how our team remained focused under pressure. This experience reinforced our commitment to transparency with partners and to putting our people first, values that guide DDM through every challenge.
