When measuring springs, this video on common errors when measuring garage door springs becomes the springboard (no pun intended) for getting the spring order right the first time.
The first and most critical mistake is to measure only one spring. Our trained order takers guide customers to measure both springs before suggesting replacements. This is because mismatched garage door springs occur about 30% in a two-spring system. If you order two springs on the premise that both are the same, your lift will be out of whack. This leads to more breakage. The problem of mismatched springs can be easily fixed. We calculate each spring’s lift from a customer’s measurements, leading to a suggestion for matched springs that handle the total lift safely.
So do not hesitate to check out our instructional page on how to measure torsion springs. For more information, make sure to watch our video about how to measure garage door springs safely and accurately. DDM Garage Doors strives to direct customers en route to a safe and reliable repair.
