Garage Door Weights - A Common Misconception - DDM Garage Doors Blog

An analog human scale used to weight a garage door.

The world has long since gone digital. We have digital cameras, mp3 storage, smartphones, DVDs, and on and on. In order to do a home garage door spring job, one might naturally think that the best way to weigh a garage door would be with a state-of-the-art digital scale.

But that is not the case at all.

Digital bathroom scales register the first steady weight they sense. They do not account for fluctuations or movement in the weight. And when weighing a garage door, we can expect the weight to change as the mechanical maneuvers allow the full weight of the garage door to be realized.

See our tutorial “How to Weigh a Garage Door” for instructions and safety precautions.
