Consequently, you cannot use standard torsion springs with these systems. DDM carries gapped self-storage springs, but they are usually special order.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Above are two examples of coil gapping. Note how the dollar bill can pass readily between the coils on the gapped torsion springs. On <a href=\"https:\/\/ddmgaragedoors.com\/springs\/standard-torsion-springs.php\">standard torsion springs<\/a>, however, a dollar bill will not slide between the coils because the coils are very tight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><a href=\"https:\/\/ddmgaragedoors.com\/blog\/uploads\/2018\/10\/standard-torsion-spring.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" src=\"https:\/\/ddmgaragedoors.com\/blog\/uploads\/2018\/10\/standard-torsion-spring-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"An image of a hand trying to place a one-dollar bill in between standard torsion spring coils. It is difficult to measure gapped torsion springs due to the tendency of the coils to push apart from each other. The compression required for length accuracy requires vigilance and care, especially when you must get fine tape measurements of 10 and 20 coils, and overall spring length.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>DDM can assist you with verifying the measurements of a gapped spring if you&#8217;re unsure, but often it is better to determine the spring you need by <a href=\"https:\/\/ddmgaragedoors.com\/blog\/2017\/07\/28\/how-to-identify-doors-by-model-number-serial-number-and-pid-numbers-2\/\">finding the door model<\/a> or by <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/2BTqq0-GFJg\">weighing the door<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In the garage door industry gapping refers to engineered spaces between coils on a torsion spring.
