If the spring is too long, one option is to shorten and bend the spring. This can be performed with a torch or a hand grinder, such as a Dremel tool.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>First, <a href=\"https:\/\/ddmgaragedoors.com\/blog\/2018\/10\/05\/help-removing-torsion-spring-cones\/\">remove the cone<\/a> at one end. We show how to do this on our <a href=\"https:\/\/ddmgaragedoors.com\/diy-instructions\/torsion-spring-cone-replacement.php\"><em>Torsion Spring Cone Replacement<\/em><\/a>&nbsp;tutorial.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The next step is to cut off the extra coils. Grip the last half of the spring wire. Then, push down on the pipe wrench and the vise-grip at the same time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After shortening and bending the spring, reinstall the cone in the spring.
